World Poetry – World Stories on Saturday June 2, 2018 from 2-4PM

Victoria Asian Heritage Celebration invites you to an event of World Poetry-World Stories. You will have a unique opportunity to hear poetry and verses spoken in various languages from all over the world. Please join us in this sharing of cultures by means of poetry-recitation and story-telling. Poems will be translated into English. Discussions will follow. Refreshments will be served.

Asian Hertiage Celebrations on Sunday, May 27 at UVic

Please join us in celebrating the Asian Heritage month on Sunday, May 27, 2018 in front of McPherson library at University of Victoria. This event is organized in collaboration with World Partnership Walk.The walk will start at 10AM and the Asian Cultural Heritage Show will start at 12:15PM. This is free public event that comprises of cultural performances, family tent,  food kiosks and much more. Come and enjoy a variety program of Afghan, Bollywood, Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Japanese and Thai dances that are presented by various cultural organizations such as Chinese Dance Victoria, Society for Indian Classical Arts, Thai Kids club, Victoria Filipino Canadian Association and Victoria Japanese Language School. World Poetry – World Stories on June 4th, 2017

World Poetry – World Stories June 4, 2017 2-4pm Room C116 David Strong Building University of Victoria Victoria Asian Heritage Celebration invites you to an event World Poetry – World Stories where you will have a great opportunity to hear poetry and verses spoken in nine different languages. Have you ever heard 3,500 years old Sanskrit words? Have you ever heard Nobel-prize winner Pablo Neruda’s poetry recited? Have you ever heard the sounds of Thai spoken? Have you known the differences between Japanese Haiku and Tanka? These are just a few examples of what you will hear at this event.  Everyone is welcome to enjoy the sounds and intonation of diverse languages and expressions throughout the world. Refreshments will be served. Please join us.

World Poetry – World Stories at Victoria Asian Heritage Celebration on June 4th 2017

World Poetry – World Stories at Victoria Asian Heritage Celebration Program Date:   June 4th, 2017 Time:   2pm-4pm Place: Room C116, David Strong Building, University of Victoria Length of presentation: 7-8 minutes for each participant Format:   After all the presentations are completed, there will be a question and answer period. Participants:   Ten participants representing Chilean, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Jewish, Korean, Sri Lankan and Thai cultural groups. Refreshments: juice and cookies will be served. Some of the participants will recite poetry of their own creation or someone well-known within their culture. Some will tell/read stories or present thoughts written by someone from their culture.  The spoken words that are presented first in non-English will be followed by an English translation. We are pleased to put this program together.  This offers an opportunity for the audience to listen to the spoken arts, both in the original language and also in English.
